Oklahoma State University Advances E-Learning With Live
Interactive Video And Integrated Content
State-Wide Network Transports More Than 1,100 Interactive
Video Courses Each Week
NASHUA, New Hampshire-
CUseeMe Networks
(NASDAQ: CUSM), the leading provider of voice and visual communications
solutions for the Internet, and OneNet, Oklahoma's telecommunications and
information network for education and government, have announced the first
web-based e-learning demonstration with live, interactive video and integrated
content. OneNet has been a CUseeMe (see-you-see-me) Networks customer for the
past year using the MeetingPoint conference server. The e-learning
demonstration was held at the Oklahoma Distance Learning Association (ODLA)
Conference in Oklahoma City in June. OneNet and CUseeMe Networks are working in
conjunction with Oklahoma State University to pilot this new e-learning
program.
"There are a number
of compelling things about this model of learning," said Dr. Terry
Ferguson, instructor at OSU who is leading the pilot program. "This gives
students the benefit of face-to-face interaction with an instructor that they
would otherwise never see, as well as the opportunity to interact with other
students. And, as an instructor, the ability to lead my online students through
content in a live format and field questions as they come up is very
valuable."
"This demonstration
of e-learning is a natural extension for the way that OneNet has been using CU-SeeMe Networks' technology for the past year," said Bill
Johnson, Network Operations Manager of OneNet. "We standardized on the MeetingPoint
conference server last year for use throughout our state-wide network for voice
and visual communications over our IP networks.
The OneNet and OSU
implementation is built on CUseeMe Networks' CUseeMe Web technology, which
allows live audio, video and text chat to be integrated into a standard web
page, as well as a web-touring feature for content that is controlled by the
instructor. The interface has been customized to match the needs of OSU's
distance learning classes.
