NEXT GENERATION GROUP VIDEO CONFERENCING TECHNOLOGY FOR NETWORKS ANNOUNCED

January 5, 2001 – Vidnet.Org, Division of Financial Services, Inc., a provider of voice and visual communications solutions for the Internet, announced the next generation of group conferencing technology for IP-based networks. The new generation video conference server version 5.0 is an update of the award-winning MeetingPoint multi-participant video conference server technology by CU-SeeMe (see-you-see-me) Networks, and will be known as CU-SeeMe Conference Server. The video conference software manages the sharing of live, interactive voice, video, application and data collaboration in group conferencing environments over corporate networks and the Internet. In addition, a new optional feature makes group conferencing features available through Microsoft's popular groupware, Microsoft Exchange.

The new server software is tightly coupled with the CU-SeeMe Networks web client technology to provide a complete end-to-end product solution for enterprises that want to deploy a scalable web-based multimedia conferencing solution to desktops company-wide. The software also utilizes the industry-standard H.323 and T.120 conferencing protocols, allowing it to interoperate seamlessly and facilitate group conferencing for both desktop and legacy room-based clients from leading industry endpoint vendors such as Polycom, PictureTel, and VTEL, as well as standards-based Voice over IP (VoIP) audio. The software can also work via gateways to connect to legacy ISDN-based (H.320) videoconferencing clients and standard phone (POTS) connections. This interoperability enables enterprise and other users to leverage their existing conferencing resources as they make the transition to future IP-based conferencing systems.

"With years of IP-based conferencing experience under its belt, CUseeMe Networks has a good understanding of the enterprise market and how to meet its needs in terms of quality, features/functionality, deployment, and scalability," said Christine Perey, senior analyst, PEREY Research & Consulting. "By leveraging Microsoft Exchange, CUseeMe Conference Server integrates conferencing into a user's day to day activities, making it a logical extension of their normal workflow and allowing them to conference from the desktop without changing their habits."

Meeting Workflow Needs with Group Conferencing
Integration into popular enterprise groupware packages provides a compelling new way for group conferencing services to be accessed by users. CUseeMe Networks recently announced such an integrated solution for Microsoft Exchange.  Used in conjunction with the CUseeMe Conference Server, this option extends the functionality of the Microsoft Exchange 2000 environment by enabling true standards-based, multi-participant video conferencing to all of the groupware users. Making video conferencing intuitively available throughout the Exchange environment allows a group of people, using any mix of H.323 clients, to interactively share audio, video and data without any additional bridging. Using Microsoft Outlook 2000, users will have the ability to schedule, start, stop, manage, update and connect to video conferences from within their standard desktop interface.
